Pelvic floor health

You do not simply have to live with it.

Leaking, heaviness or discomfort are common, but they are not something you simply have to live with.

A proper assessment clarifies what is happening and what can be done. Your concerns are heard in private, your options are explained plainly, and nothing is recommended before you have been assessed.

  • Private, unhurried assessment
  • Options explained, including those that need no procedure
  • Doctor-led, matched to your concern

Understanding the pelvic floor

What the pelvic floor does, and why it changes.

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissue that supports the bladder, the uterus and the bowel. Pregnancy, childbirth, ageing and menopause can all change how well it works.

Women often notice the first signs quietly: a little leaking when they cough, laugh or exercise, a feeling of heaviness, or discomfort that was not there before. Because these changes are common and rarely discussed, many women wait years before asking about them.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. A proper assessment shows what is happening, and that is the starting point for deciding what, if anything, to do.

“Common does not mean you have to accept it.”

What this covers

What a consultation can cover.

Urinary incontinence

Leaking when you cough, laugh or exercise, or a sudden strong urge to pass urine that is hard to hold.

Pelvic organ prolapse

A feeling of heaviness, dragging or a bulge in the pelvic area as the pelvic organs sit lower than they should.

Pelvic floor strengthening

Guidance on strengthening the muscles, including non-invasive treatment where it is suitable for you.

Who it is for

This may be right for you if...

  • You leak when you cough, laugh or exercise
  • You feel heaviness or a bulge in the pelvic area
  • You have noticed changes since childbirth
  • You are not sure whether what you feel is normal
  • You want to hear every option, including those that do not need a procedure
What happens

How it works.

Every visit follows the same four steps, so you always know what comes next.

i.

Consultation

Your concerns and history, in your own words, with no time pressure.

ii.

Assessment

An examination or targeted tests, only where they will change the advice. Your doctor explains each step first.

iii.

Personal plan

Your options explained honestly, including exercises and non-invasive care before anything more.

iv.

Follow-up

Progress reviewed over time, and the plan adjusted when needed.

Technology

Technology, used with judgment.

We use established technology where it suits your needs, and only after an assessment. Whether any of it is right for you is decided at your consultation, and sometimes it is not.

Fotona StarFormer

Non-invasive electromagnetic stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles, used to help strengthen weak muscles.

Used in Pelvic Floor Health

BTL

Non-invasive devices for pelvic floor and intimate wellness care.

Used in Pelvic Floor Health and Sexual Health

Detailed information about these devices is on the Da Vinci Clinic website. Results vary between individuals, and no treatment is recommended without a consultation first.

When to seek help sooner. See a doctor promptly if you notice blood in your urine, severe pelvic pain, or you are unable to pass urine. If it is an emergency, call 999 or go to your nearest emergency department.

Common questions

Questions women commonly ask.

Is leaking after childbirth normal?

It is common, but common does not mean you have to accept it. An assessment can show what is going on and what can help.

Will I need surgery?

Not necessarily. What is suitable depends on what the assessment finds, and many concerns are first managed without surgery. Any option is explained, including its benefits, risks and alternatives, before you decide.

Is the examination uncomfortable?

Your doctor explains each step before it happens, and you can ask to pause or stop at any point.

Is this only for women who have had children?

No. Pelvic floor concerns can affect women at any stage of life, including women who have never given birth.

Do I need to prepare for my visit?

Our team will tell you if anything is needed before you come. It helps to note when your symptoms happen and how often.
